In my experience, ombre powder brows work beautifully on:

The only clients I advise to wait: those currently on Accutane, pregnant/nursing, or undergoing active chemotherapy. During your first conversation, I go through your medical history, because some of it changes what I will agree to do.

My Preparation Process

Proper preparation significantly improves pigment retention. Here's what I tell every client:

2 Weeks Before:

• Stop retinoids, glycolic acid, and exfoliating products near the brow area
• Avoid Botox or filler injections in the forehead/brow region
• Discontinue brow growth serums

48 Hours Before:

• No alcohol, caffeine, aspirin, or ibuprofen (these thin the blood)
• Avoid intense sun exposure or tanning

Day Of:

• Come with clean skin — no makeup on the brow area
• Eat a meal beforehand (low blood sugar = lower pain tolerance)
• Bring reference photos if you have a specific shape in mind

What Happens During Your Appointment

Here's exactly what a session looks like at my studio in Annandale, VA:

1. Consultation & Mapping (30 min)

I measure your facial proportions, discuss your preferences, and draw your brow shape using a technique called the golden ratio. You approve every detail before any pigment touches your skin.

2. Color Matching (10 min)

I custom-blend pigments to complement your natural coloring. I only use vegan pigments that are EU-compliant and free from heavy metals — this matters for how your brows age over time.

3. Numbing (15 min)

A topical anesthetic is applied. Most people describe the sensation as a "light scratching" — far less painful than a tattoo or even microblading.

4. The Procedure (60–90 min)

Using a digital PMU machine with a single needle, I build the gradient layer by layer. The ombre effect is created by varying pigment density — lightest at the head, darkest at the tail.

5. Aftercare Review (10 min)

You'll leave with the aftercare written down, so it is not a set of instructions said once while you are getting your coat. Total appointment time: About 2–2.5 hours.

Honest Healing Timeline

This is where most generic guides fail — they don't tell you about the "ugly duckling" phase. Here is what actually happens, based on what I see week to week:

Days 1–3: Bold & Dark

Your brows will look considerably darker than the final result. This is normal. The excess pigment sits on the surface and sheds during healing. Don't panic.

Days 4–7: Flaking & Patching

Light flaking begins. Your brows may look patchy, uneven, or lighter in spots. Do not pick, peel, or scratch. This is the most critical phase — peeling disrupts pigment retention.

Days 8–14: The "Ghost" Phase

After flaking, your brows may look very light — almost like the pigment disappeared. This scares a lot of clients, but it's completely normal. The pigment is settling beneath the healed skin layer.

Weeks 3–6: True Color Emerges

The healed colour gradually resurfaces. By week 6 you are looking at close to the finished result, and that is when the second session happens, to fill any spots that did not retain evenly. DMV-Specific Aftercare

Living in Northern Virginia means adapting your aftercare to our climate. Here's my process:

First 7 Days (Critical):

• Keep brows dry — no water, sweat, steam, or swimming
• Summer clients: Blot sweat immediately with a clean tissue. Sleep with A/C or a fan
• Apply aftercare balm 2–3x daily with clean hands (included in your kit)
• No makeup on or near the brow area
• Sleep on your back to avoid rubbing brows on your pillow

Days 7–14:

• Gentle face washing is OK, but avoid direct water pressure on brows
• Continue balm application
• No swimming, saunas, or hot yoga

Weeks 3–6:

• Resume normal skincare, but keep retinoids away from brows
• Apply SPF 30+ on brows when outdoors (UV fades pigment)
• Schedule your touch-up appointment around week 6

Long-Term (Year 1+):

• Sun is what fades pigment fastest, so daily SPF is the one habit that matters most
• Color refresher appointments are available every 12–18 months
• Avoid chemical peels or laser treatments on the brow area

Real Cost Breakdown
