The work
What it is, in plain terms
Pigment is deposited into the upper layers of the skin as a fine mist of dots rather than as cut lines, using a machine rather than a blade. Because there are no defined edges, it softens as it fades instead of breaking up, which is the difference people notice a year later.
“Ombre” just describes the gradient: nearly bare at the head of the brow, gradually denser toward the arch. That gradient is doing most of the work. A brow that is the same density all the way across is the one that reads as drawn on, and it is what people mean when they say a brow looks blocky.

Healing and follow-up
Two sessions, about six weeks apart

First few days
Darker and sharper than it will stay. Usually the darkest it gets.
End of week one
Light flaking as the top layer sheds. Leave it alone.

It can look as if it barely took; the color usually returns.

Settled enough to judge. The second session evens things out.

It is not the same thing as pus or discharge, skin that is hot to the touch, spreading redness, a fever, or pain that is getting worse rather than better after the first couple of days: those need a doctor or an urgent care clinic the same day, before you wait for a reply from Mugi.

Numbing cream goes on before she starts. The feeling is usually described as scratching or pressure, and some people compare it to threading. You can ask for more numbing at any point, and she will stop and reapply.
Keep the brows dry for the first 7 days. For the first 14, keep makeup, heavy sweating, swimming, saunas, direct sun, and retinol or acid products away from them, and let the flakes come off on their own. The color is judged at about 6 weeks, not before. Darker before it lightens is the usual pattern. Sometimes. It depends on how much is left, what color it has turned and where it sits, and some of it needs lightening elsewhere first. A photo of your brows gives Mugi enough for a first opinion; the decision is made in person.
